Take-off and landing in Beijing
Today, many of us our embarking on our trip to Chengdu for the opening ceremonies of the Yin Family Community Center. This blog will provide a day-to-day account of our adventures with text, pictures, and video(hopefully).
After a meal of overpriced noodles, we are now waiting in the lobby. A little separation anxiety felt by the mommies, but armed with magazines, we are ready to go.
All was well on the 12 hour airline flight from SFO.The 11 family members who traveled together all sat near each other on the Air China flight. As with most China-bound flights, it was packed with people and the flight attendants were surly at best. As a coincidence, we sat in front of the former mayor of Oakland,Elihu Harris, who reconnected with CC from his early days at McDonalds.
The food wasn't too bad on the flight, but after 12 hours, even the best magazines (People, US, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan) and the best movies (The Queen - which is actually good) become unbearable.Fortunately, we had good company to keep us occupied.
The kids, Kayla and Willow, were great. Despite being bored and energetic, both kids were very well-behaved and acted like seasoned world travelers.
After 12 hours, we landed safely in Beijing and got through customs very quickly. We had tons of luggage, but Paul and Jane met us at the exit as well as the Beijing tour guide. While Sophie, Mary and Willow went back to Paul and Jane's home in Wanfujing area; the other 9 partied on going to an acrobat performance followed by dinner at 8:30pm (5:30am California time)
